How ThermiVa Works to Improve Your Sexual Health

When it comes to sexual health, men have long grabbed the spotlight, which is evidenced by the number of solutions they have to improve their performance, from pills to pumps. Unfortunately, women’s sexual health concerns weren’t heard above the noise — until now. Thanks to new laser technology, we’re now able to address vaginal health in order to help women enjoy happy and active sex lives long into the future.

Here at Precision Plastic Surgery, we’re always on the lookout for innovative techniques and procedures that use the latest science for the best possible results. To that end, Dr. Joseph Ku chose to equip our offices with the ThermiVa® system for improving vaginal health.

On the loose

There are many issues that can affect your vaginal health, with childbirth and menopause leading the charge. In the first instance, childbirth stretches your vaginal tissue considerably and sometimes past its ability to bounce back, leaving you with vaginal laxity. This is especially true for women who’ve had multiple children.

For women going through perimenopause and menopause, the decrease in reproductive hormones also causes a precipitous drop in collagen production, which is the protein responsible for elasticity and tone in your tissue. When it comes to the tissue in your vaginal walls, the reduced estrogen and progesterone can lead to vaginal dryness, painful sex, and vaginal laxity.

In less common cases, vaginal health can be affected by certain cancer treatments, which can have a negative impact on your tissue health.

Radiofrequency to the rescue

Using our ThermiVa system, we send radiofrequency energy into your tissue, which heats it up just enough to spur a very mild healing response in your body. This response comes in the form of renewed collagen production, which is your body’s way of repairing itself.

The procedure takes only minutes, and we deliver the energy through a very small wand that’s designed to fit comfortably inside your vagina. The radiofrequency energy travels into your tissue without harming the surface area, making it a noninvasive treatment.

Typically, we suggest that women undergo three treatments over three months. The reason we space these treatments out is to allow time for your body to respond with renewed collagen production between visits. You should notice gradual results as you progress through your treatments, with optimal results 6-12 weeks after your last appointment with us.

What are the results?

Using ThermiVa, our goal is to strengthen your vaginal tissue through renewed collagen production. Thin or lax vaginal walls benefit greatly from the foundational support that new collagen provides. In addition to thicker and healthier tissue, some women report better sensation in their vaginal tissue as well as increased lubrication.

No fuss, no muss

Many of our patients prefer to tackle sexual health through ThermiVa rather than relying on hormones, which have a systemic effect on your body and may come with unintended consequences. With ThermiVa, we target your vagina without upsetting the balance elsewhere in your body.

ThermiVa also provides a less messy solution than topical hormone creams and lubricants, both of which require a considerable amount of work both before and after use, which doesn’t exactly fit in with setting a sexual mood.
