Liposuction Q & A

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure to remove fat from trouble areas and sculpt an improved shape. Localized fat reduction helps contour the body for those who can’t get rid of fat in specific areas, despite their best efforts with healthy habits.

During the 45 minute to two-hour procedure, Dr. Ku makes small inconspicuous incisions and treats the area with local anesthesia to control blood flow. Then, he loosens fatty tissue in the treatment area and uses a tube with suction to remove it.

The results from the operation are permanent; however, if you gain weight after the procedure, fat can accumulate in those areas again.

What areas of the body does liposuction treat?

If an area on your body that accumulates fat bothers you, you can get liposuction to shrink the fat pockets. The areas Dr. Ku commonly treats with liposuction include:

  • Upper arms
  • Back
  • Waist
  • Thighs
  • Love handles
  • Buttocks

Dr. Ku incorporates liposuction into other procedures as well, including:

What should I expect during recovery?

You may be sore and swollen for several days as you recover from liposuction. Dr. Ku provides post-operative instructions and pain medication to help you moderate residual pain.

Dr. Ku leaves a small drainage tube underneath the skin to prevent fluid buildup, which he removes within the first few days. He also provides you with a compression garment to control swelling and help press your new figure into position.

Full recovery from liposuction takes a few weeks. You should be able to return to work after a few days and resume the rest of your routine activities after about two weeks.
