Body Contouring

Body contouring is a series of surgical procedures that address problems of loose skin and tissue, which typically become a problem after major weight loss. Through body contouring, Dr. Ku can put the finishing touch on your weight loss efforts.

When to Consider Body Contouring

If you’ve lost weight or seen your body shape change over time, body contouring may be right for you. It’s common to see weight loss patients with loose folds of skin on many areas of the body.

Good candidates for body contouring are:

  • At a stable body weight
  • Motivated to improve body shape
  • Healthy, non-smokers

All of these criteria help ensure that you get the best possible results from your body contouring procedures.

Your Body Contouring Consultation

During a consultation at our Riverside plastic surgery practice, Dr. Ku can explain for you the benefits, risks and other details about body contouring. He will also evaluate your medical history, as well as your goals for the surgery. Remember to openly share your goals, expectations and health history during the consultation.

The Surgery: What Happens During Body Contouring?

After the skin stretches during weight gain, or lost elasticity with age, it will not typically shrink back down when the body mass decreases. To remedy this situation, Dr. Ku will perform skin excision procedures, as well as liposuction, to improve your body shape. Procedures like the tummy tuck, arm lift, butt lift, breast lift, and others remove loose tissue on the abdomen, back, arms, thighs and/or buttocks. Body contouring is performed with a general anesthetic and may be staged into multiple procedures.

After Surgery

Recovery time varies depending on the procedures that have been performed. Most body contouring patients should plan for at least 2-3 weeks of recovery time following each surgical session. Compression garments will often need to be worn for several weeks to reduce swelling in treated area(s), and after six weeks, most activity restrictions are usually lifted.
